Levels of Engagement

Mike Wazowski is lurking my blog
Hello friends,

It's another week and another chapter of Measure What Matters by Katie Paine. This week we moved on to chapter five and six and discussed how to measure the world of social media. One of the most important themes Paine focused on was measuring what you can't control.

Engagement is one of those factors that you just can't control, but it's so critical to the success of a company. There are five levels of engagement.
1. Lurking
2. Casual
3. Active
4. Committed
5. Loyalist

Lurking could be explained as "liking" something on Facebook, but never really looking at it again. There is no loyalty involved and

Casual engagement would be like following someone on Twitter or downloading a YouTube video. This is typically where a relationship ends, so you need to examine the ratio between new and repeat visitors.

Active engagement is when a person is actively participating. For example, commenting on Facebook or retweeting news or sending linking for YouTube videos. It is important to understand why they are being active and what could be done to take them to the next level.

Committed engagement is when satisfaction is the extent to which each party feels favorable toward one another because of positive expectations about the relationship are reinforced.. The way this is measured is through the number of new registration.

A loyalist is someone who visits a site daily and I actively involved. For me this would be like Pinterest. I go to that site at least three times a day and actively pin new content. It is important to really understand what people think about the organization. This information can be aquired through the use of surveys.

Engagement is to important to measure because it helps to build relationships, promote and protect your brand and can help make your products better.

If you are in my social media class you understand why the Monsters Inc character Mike Wazowski is at the top of this post. For those of you who aren't, he is lurking with his one eyeball!! Ha ha get it?

      Until next time,

       Katie

  1. I remember blurting out in class that I am a loyalist when it comes to following "Pretty Little Liars" content. It's true though! I check the blog at least once every day (people have so many crazy theories about who A is) and I am constantly retweeting everything they say on Twitter. Facebook is always in my daily routine as well. I am pretty much a Pretty Little Liars mega-loyalist!
